40 Paintings in 30 Days

Ten years ago I participated in a challenge called 30 Day Artist. It is no longer around, but the idea was that you painted 40 paintings in 30 days. It is actually a real challenge as there are some days where two paintings are needed to make it to the goal. I decided in honor of that October, ten long years ago, I would once again make 40 paintings in 30 days. I'm officially done and I'm happy to say I did it, again!  :) These paintings were far smaller, and I worked in mostly acrylic and ink, where ten years ago I mostly worked in oil! That was probably way more challenging and put so much more pressure on than the way I did it this year. I also worked pretty small compared to last time. All my paintings are 3"x5", and on a thick watercolor paper.

Here are all forty paintings in one place, I kept this challenge on instagram so it is nice to see them all in one place!

Around Here Lately

It has been a real struggle to make time for everything lately. Being 29 weeks pregnant and running out of energy on an almost daily basis hasn't left too much time for art making. I've been squeezing it in when I can though. Wish I had more to share here on my blog, but for now i'm going with the flow. I think it is completely reasonable to not expect too much at this time. I've been keeping up with my monthly desktop wallpapers, you can get access to them through my mailing list here. August2560x1440

I've also been in the studio making art whenever I have some free time. It felt really good to dive back into paints again, and start a new painting. I've always been drawn to elephants, and love to add them to my work. Was bummed when I went to the zoo last weekend and they had no elephants!

I'm also playing in my sketchbook a lot lately, and working out some new styles and ways of creating illustrations. I'm looking forward to working on some of my big ideas in 2017, and can't wait to share what I've been thinking up with you! Hoping that getting on a schedule with a toddler and baby won't be too hard, and that by January I'll be able to get myself back to the studio slowly but surely!

VIDEO: Weekly Painting 3

This week's painting started off amazing, I was really excited where it was headed, but when I showed up earlier today to finish it off I felt stuck. I painted the first thing I thought of, which happened to be birds and I'm still on the fence whether this painting is done. I am actually thinking of carrying it over to next week so I can dig into it a little bit more. I think that could be an exciting cliff-hanger!
