Patterns, Patterns, Patterns!

I’ve been so obsessed with making patterns lately. It is oddly so calming, fun, and there is just something about moving shapes around until they are just right that is so satisfying!

This is another one I created using my autumn leaves clip art. It has been so much fun just coming up with different autumn color schemes. I’ve known how to make patterns for some years now, but since getting a subscription to skillshare and taking some classes on there, I feel like it was just the refresher I needed. I just recently took Jessica Swift’s pattern camp, which I recommend to anyone interested in learning more about creating their own patterns!

Happy Autumn Everyone! :)

Autumn Artwork

fall leaf

I’ve been hard at work on some new art, and it is all available as a digital clip art collection! Being inspired by autumn coming and the fact that the leaves are already starting to change up here. I’m hoping to make many more of these types of collections going forward, and also some patterns along the way as well.

What fall project will you create?

Animal Spirit Guides

I've always been a big follower of animals as spirit guides. I got into this concept shortly after my brother was killed and crows kept showing up. They still do, I'm pretty sure they are my spirit animal. I think before that it was a dragonfly, but i'm pretty sure that it changes as our lives do. I'm really not sure where this post is going at the moment. I just wanted to share how excited I am about getting Jessica Swift's Animal Allies oracle card deck. Not only are these sooo pretty, the artwork is just amazing, but there is also an explanation about each animal and its meaning and symbolism.

I also got a crow print with my deck, and can't wait to frame it and hang it up in my studio!  These will make some pretty awesome gifts! (this is not an affiliate link, and i'm just posting this because it's all love) :)

Around Here Lately

It has been a real struggle to make time for everything lately. Being 29 weeks pregnant and running out of energy on an almost daily basis hasn't left too much time for art making. I've been squeezing it in when I can though. Wish I had more to share here on my blog, but for now i'm going with the flow. I think it is completely reasonable to not expect too much at this time. I've been keeping up with my monthly desktop wallpapers, you can get access to them through my mailing list here. August2560x1440

I've also been in the studio making art whenever I have some free time. It felt really good to dive back into paints again, and start a new painting. I've always been drawn to elephants, and love to add them to my work. Was bummed when I went to the zoo last weekend and they had no elephants!

I'm also playing in my sketchbook a lot lately, and working out some new styles and ways of creating illustrations. I'm looking forward to working on some of my big ideas in 2017, and can't wait to share what I've been thinking up with you! Hoping that getting on a schedule with a toddler and baby won't be too hard, and that by January I'll be able to get myself back to the studio slowly but surely!

Starting a Sketchbook Practice

Lately, I've become a big fan of sketchbooks, and before this year they were mostly in my life, but not something I made a regular habit of. I started one again when I signed up for Sketchbook Skool earlier this year and it has been amazing to be making art on the regular again. Life is busy with a toddler, and also maintaining my freelance work, all the while also doing all those things in life that need to be done. So when I picked up a sketchbook and started carrying one around with me it made a huge difference in my creative habits. Now I don't have to feel so guilty about not being able to get into the studio everyday, and it has been fun to incorporate my son into some of my sketches. I recently wrote a little guide on eBay about starting a sketchbook practice. Feel free to check it out now, and hopefully get going on your very own sketchbook habit.
